About the Department

The department of chemistry is one of the oldest and largest departments in the college. The department was instituted in 1912 and full-fledged Honours course was started in 1922.  The department has been recognized by the University of Burdwan, presently by Bankura University as a centre of basic research for carrying out Ph.D work in chemistry. 

The department has an adequate number of efficient and competent faculties who cater the academic need of the talented students. The competencies of the faculties are reflected in the uniform brilliant results of the students over the last few years in the final university examinations. The faculties have also a distinguished record of research activities in the department. 

The Department has started collaborative research work with some foreign universities. Two faculty members Dr. D. Bandyopadhyay and Dr. S. Mandal  work on various projects in which some of the studies are being done in collaboration with (i) Institute of Mineralogy  and Crystallography, University of Vienna, Austria (ii)Department of Chemistry , University of Barcelona, Spain(iii) Department of Chemistry, Howard University, USA and (iv)Department of Chemistry, University of Parma, Italy. In the state level, the Department is also working jointly with Jadavpur University, Kazi Nazrul University and Department of Zoology, Bankura Christian College.
