About the Department

The Department Of Physics is one of the oldest and prestigious departments of our Institution. It was established in the year 1921 and started its jouey with pass course studies and later in 1930, the honors course were introduced. During that time the college was affiliated to the University of Calcutta and later it was affiliated to the University of Burdwan, since then this department is producing academic of excellence with its innovations. After that in the year 2017, our college was affiliated to the University of Bankura.

The aim of our department is to develop in students a thorough understanding of the laws of Physics and their applications. Apart from well-equipped laboratories we have now in our department well-equipped Computer Lab, facilities of e-class room and slide show presentation by using projector, smart board…etc. The department has an ‘Observatory’ named ‘Rev. Mitchell Observatory’ which was first established in our college in 1903 and at that time the name of our college was ‘Wesleyan College. After that, the Observatory was reconstructed and renovated by our department in 2012 and now it is regularly being used for observing celestial object.

Apart from general class as scheduled in the departmental routine, the teachers of the department takes additional measure for both slow leaers and advance leaers through several additional classes, debates and seminar classes’ .etc. for student’s advancement. Also the staff members of our department participates national and inteational seminars regularly and to strengthen their knowledge they also attend orientation program, refresher courses in regular interval. Faculty members are highly dedicated for quality Physics education with different mode tools of teaching and leaing process. The department of Physics ever since its inception has always given immense importance to quality education. The untiring effort of the laboratory staff and the high standards of teaching in the department have over the years attracted students from all over the state to seek admission to B.Sc. (H) Physics course. The laurels that the students of the department have been bringing continuously to the college makes the department feels extremely proud of itself.
